spring forward ~

is spring really coming early this year? we had a delicious taste of springtime weather this past weekend. the breezes were a mixture of cool and warm. it felt reeeeal fresh. we aired out the house with open windows and doors. i was reminded of how i like to spend the summer weekends with slow mornings of coffee on the deck. we made blueberry amaretto pancakes and eventually made it out to rock creek park for some biking.  life is good.
while i’ve been shutting out the world lately to catch up with myself… i DID manage to spend a couple hours with emily, supporting her submission to this year’s PEEPS diorama contest.  her idea is going to blow the competition away.  its very ambitious but she and her co-worker are not messing around.  i’m not going to give anything away so stay tuned for final photos.
i also enjoyed a celebratory dinner at Founding Farmers for Meghan’s birthday.  FF covers all the bases for a holistic, feel-good-about-yourself dining experience…  it is a co-op owned by family farmers in North Dakota (i gather), the menu is seasonal fare, restaurant itself was built responsibly (LEED Gold rating).  the atmosphere was a little over the top (typ. for CORE) but with really nice items.  from the website: “The rich history of American cooking tradition is celebrated through the menus at Founding Farmers, with a philosophy to promote sustainable agriculture and the ways of the American family farmer at every turn.  Each season, new choices will reflect the best of what’s available from our farm sources.”  truly, everything on the menu was calling me.  in the end i picked grilled cheese and tomato soup with a side of swiss chard.  sadly the food was only okay.  salty.  appetizers were very good though, as were desserts.  and the experiencewas satisfying.  i felt good about the food and the beliefs of the restaurant.  i am pretty sure i’ll be going back soon for a second try.
